【Why Steel Structures Excel in Seismic Performance, Post-921 Earthquake】

The superior earthquake resistance of steel structures is also reflected in their ductility. In areas with plastic hinges, seismic deformation consumes and absorbs earthquake energy. Structural ductility plays a crucial role by slowing the rise of seismic forces and preventing excessive internal stress, significantly reducing the impact and damage to the building during an earthquake.
Reducing the building’s self-weight is also essential for seismic performance. Therefore, in the construction industry, combining lightweight wall panels with steel structures creates the most earthquake-resistant buildings. Taiwan, being a seismically active region, is particularly suitable for the “steel structure + lightweight floor slabs + lightweight walls” integrated construction method.

Floor slab specimens were tested according to experimental standards.



Under maximum gravitational load causing extreme bending, the floor slabs did not collapse, preserving safe evacuation and refuge space.


H-shaped steel beams bent, yet the connection between floor slabs and steel structures remained intact, with no displacement or detachment.

Lightweight Brick Wall Performance


【Reinforced Concrete (RC) Walls】

After 1 hour of burning, a 150 mm concrete wall developed cracks due to the fire, allowing gaps to form and the flames to spread.


【Guyue Lightweight Brick Panel Wall System】

After 3 hours of continuous burning, a 150 mm composite wall effectively prevented flame spread and blocked heat-induced ignition.Wall temperature on the non-exposed side: 81.5 °C.Temperature at 1 m distance: 34.8 °C
 
Guyue has obtained two invention patents for lightweight fire-resistant brick wall structures and reinforced lightweight fire-resistant brick wall structures.
These systems are applied to both interior and exterior walls of buildings, meeting National First-Class Fire Safety Standards and complying with fire protection requirements in building design codes. In the event of a fire, the lightweight partition walls effectively prevent flame spread and block heat-induced ignition, protecting both the building’s interior and the safety of occupants and property.
